OSS and Self-Hosting

Bandwagon is built on 100% open source software, which means that you are free to install it on your own servers if you want. And, one major design goal is to make Bandwagon the single easiest Fediverse app to install and run.

We are encouraging bands to sign up here

At least through the end of this year, for several reasons:

  1. It is less work to use our servers than to set up your own
  2. Your experience is valuable feedback that will make Bandwagon better for everyone
  3. It’s free, so save your cash for tacos instead.

We are encouraging developers to install Bandwagon

in test environments to see how it works and how they might like to improve on it or integrate with it in the future.

How To Install Bandwagon

Bandwagon is an app that runs on the Emissary server. To install Bandwagon on your own machine:

  1. Install the Emissary server. Don’t worry, it’s really easy.
  2. Run Emissary with the --setup option to open the setup console.
  3. Go to Server Settings > Packages to add the Bandwagon template files to your server. You can either download these to your machine, or link to them directly on GitHub.
  4. Emissary will automatically refresh its configuration and make Bandwagon profiles available to all users.
