Placebo Button was born out of a desire to demonstrate what can be done creatively using a piece of software I wrote called image2sound. The “starter audio” is generated from images passed to a conversion algorithm alongside various parameters for key, tempo, etc. After that, the audio is mixed and lightly enhanced with reverb, EQ, and fades.
I have slowly expanded and improved the conversion algorithm, and recently fixed a long-standing bug. By applying Blackman smoothing, the characteristic “clickiness” prominent in the audio produced by older versions is gone, which results in more pleasant overall sound.
For the sake of comparison, I regenerated various tracks, including the entirety of the “Synthetic Baroque album, using this new method. The result is this “remix album”.
